Welcome to the Homepage of the Working Group Schrallhammer!

Our research focusses on several aspects of microbial host-symbiont interactions: we study the diversity of symbiotic bacteria (or other organisms) associated with aquatic unicellular eukaryotes, especially Paramecium (the “slipper animal” or “Pantoffeltierchen”).

In order to elucidate the impact of symbionts on their host and of biotic and abiotic factors on the symbiosis, we use functional assays, genomics and transcriptomics to unravel cause, effect and potentially mechanism.
